Oxyuris Vermicularis, an Unmentioned Cause of Fistula-In-Ano

Sir,?During the last nine years of my professional career I have met with many cases of fistula-in-auo, and on enquiring into their history and progress have often found that the Oxvuris Yermicularis worms were the cause of the disease. Now as fistula-in-ano is a most distressing affection, and cannot be cured radically without the knife, which many people dread so much, we should endeavour by all means in our power to remove any cause likely to produce it. The usual remedies for destroying these worms having often failed in my hands, I wish to bring forward the advantages of chloroform which is so effectual in cases of vermes nasi. Four or five drops of chloroform dropped into the rectum through a speculum at bed time, I have found to produce excellent results iu a few days, aud to thoroughly destroy the worms. I am, Dear Sir,
